Eva Mendes - the 'body image' nazi's have gone completely mad . . .

I was on Seven's Sunrise show early this morning, justifying why the usual 'curvaceous' Eva Mendes looks so good in a recent shoot of underwear she has done for Calvin Klein. Sound ridiculous?

There she is, striking a pose or two (in CK undies) with fellow good sort Jamie Dornan, the campaign is promoting the brand's fall (autumn/winter in Oz speak) 2009 underwear and jeans collections. In one of the several black-and-white pix (shot by renowned photographer Steven Klein) Ms Mendes is pictured laying on Jamie's almost naked body. You go, you 30-something girl.

In the picture, Eva is holding the upper part of Jamie's undies and in another photo, both genetically-pleasing specimens are posing topless. Whooooo, all fantastically sexy and saleable, methinks. And isn't that the point?

So, to the 'justification' of her apparent 'scrawny' appearance?

Apparently there are detractors out there (hello? can you at least come out and tell us who you are?) who think she looks too scrawny and skinny in the campaign pics.

Just picture this. You are about to shoot a campaign for big-time underwear.

Like any sportsperson, hair model, hand model (yes, there are such things); 'skin' model, dancer, singer or entertainer, don't you want the tool of your trade - and in Ms Mendes's Calvin Klein case, it is her body - to be in optimum condition?

Not for any 'I want to look bulimic/anorexic' type of reason, but just her wish for her bod to look as toned, honed and as good as it can . . . particularly if she is flogging undies.

Sure, we all need to 'accept our bodies the way they are' and at this stage of my life, I happily have, with gusto, accepted mine, but for godsake, to say she looks scrawny . . . .?

Sounds like any excuse for the body image police to grab a damn headline.

By the way, the CK campaign will appear in billboards and mags like Elle, Lucky, Vanity Fair, W, GQ, Nylon, Details, Interview and In Style. So we ain't seen nuthin' yet.
