The 'Food Society', Sydney's newest dining and catering establishment officially opens its doors this week and offers a trip back in time to the 1950s - that is you'll step off the red carpet and into Grandma's comfy lounge, awaiting an eclectic mix of modern European fare and the social food experience in Sydney.s inner city.
This new dining concept showcases a celebration of an unusual dining experience with rustic, homely hospitality, a kitchen open late, and a carefully selected team – including co-owners Sonia Stanojevic and Brendan Lloyd who aim to bring new life with classic values into the
Sydney scene.
“Old school hospitality is our philosophy. We want to provide innovative, creative and honest food with professional service and passion,” they said.

The Food Society is a truly inspired and creative concept, once sat down diners can enjoy house-made pickles and crostini to whet the appetite. There is no traditional cocktail list, instead one can enjoy house made lemonade or 'Peach Bitters with Kafir Lime and soda’
served from the 1950.s fridge. The Eastern European spirits are served in retro alchemist bottles and mini traditional Slivovitz glasses imported directly from Serbia, which are commonly served throughout the Balkans. The wine list – while extensive includes more
exclusive niche Champagnes inspired by Russian Royalty such as 'Tsarine' and over 30 of the finest vodkas, Slivovitz and Beers that Poland, Serbia, Croatia, Slovakia and the Czech Republic have to offer.

Standout dishes include the Russian inspired, 'Beetroot & vodka cured ocean trout blini, dill cream’, and ‘Poached octopus terrine, fresh lemon & virgin oil’. For more substantial offerings you can't go past the 'Beef short rib braised in dark beer, soft white polenta, buttered sprouts’. For dessert, the Food Society's 'Pashka’ (a Russian inspired cheesecake made from Ricotta style cheese) served with Rhubarb compote is simply to die for.
Food Society's design and original rustic interiors, consulted by designers from Bosnia leave you with something new to look at every time you visit. Both sides of the business are combined in an environment designed around an open kitchen for both its restaurant and off-site catering.
Being at the forefront of great service is essential to Food Society, which is why they are the first restaurant in Australia to embrace the new Hospitality Point of Sale System – ISIS POS designed for Apple.s Ipads and handheld devices.

On the service side, Robert Kania, head staff trainer & event manager has a background which stems from personally looking after the board of Directors at Merryl and Lynch, New York. Head Event Manager Darius Grygo has worked running events at Wall Street's Cipriani's and served loyal clients including legendary band, U2.
Bar Manager, Vedran Grozdanic was the CEO of Westpac's,Gail Kelly's main attendant for boardroom functions as well as more recently hailing from Sydney.s Opera Bar and the Four Seasons Hotel.
